Code or Standard:

  1. BS EN 13155:2003 Crane – Safety – Non fixed load lifting attachments
  2. ASME B30.20-2013 Below-the-Hook Lifting Devices
  3. The International Labor Organizations (ILO) code of practice for Safety and Health in Ports
  4. Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA)

Definisi sesuai dengan Standard :

ASME 30.20, section 20-0.3

lifting beam (spreader beam); a load-supporting lifter [see Fig. 20-0.3-5 (a)]

Definisi sesuai dengan Standard :

BS 13155. 2003 POINT 3

Lifting Beam

Equipment consisting of one or more members equipped with attachment points to facilitate the handling of loads which require support at several points.

Perbedaan utama Spreader Beam dan Lifting Beam adalah jenis gaya yang diterapkan/dialami pada balok/beam.

Spreader beams and lifting beams:

  1. To be used to stabilize and support a load during an overhead lift.
  2. To be used to keep the lifting slings below the device at or near a 90° angle (perpendicular to the horizon). This helps to avoid damage to the load, damage to rigging hardware and lifting slings, and helps keep the slings from sliding off of the load during the lift.

Inspection / Examination

Examinations/Inspections should include the following:

  1. Checked for identification number.
  2. Checked for clear marking of SWL
  3. Check main body of beam is free from distortion, corrosion, cracks, gouge, or wear.
  4. Checked all welded connection are free from cracking or corrosion.
  5. Checked that any bolted connections are free from corrosion and cracking and that all are secure using the correct bolts.
  6. Checked that any shackles fitted are free from distortion, nicks, gouges or wear.
  7. Checked that all shackles pins are captivated preferably with a nut and pin arrangement

1. Visual Inspection

Thorough Visual Inspection after fabrication process shall be carried out to check the welds soundness. Visual Inspection shall be carried out by certified Welding Inspector.

2. Non Destructive Testing (NDT) before Proof Test

MPI/PI (Magnetic Particle Inspection/Penetrant Inspection) method also shall be carried out for any welded joints after fabrication process. The NDT shall be carried out by the certified ASNT Level II MT/PT technician or equal, with approved NDT Procedure.

3. Static Proof Test

Static Proof tested (see table) shall be done once the NDT after fabrication is satisfactory with holding time for load testing is 5 minutes (minimum)

4. Non Destructive Testing (NDT) after Static Proof Test

After Static Proof Test, Visual inspection and NDT (MPI/PI) shall be carried out by a competent person to verify the integrity spreader bar included all the welded joints.

5. Reporting

Removal Criteria
It shall be removed from service if the following conditions are present :
  1. Missing or illegible data plates/identification numbers
  2. Deformation, cracks, corrosion or excessive wear
  3. Broken or missing guards, pins, bolts/nuts
  4. Cracked or worn shackles and pins ( if any)
  5. Excessive wear at hoist hooking points or load supporting surfaces.
